Exactly a month before Girijesh Ji’s news came, I was speaking to him on the phone about every possible topic under the sun with regard to the Shaastra(s). He simply overswept me with the breadth of his vidwatta on the methodology of reading the Veda Samhita(s), the true purport of the Yagya Anushthaan, Vedanga Jyotisha, shuddha paatha of Ramayana, to name a few. The call had already exceeded two hours and thirty minutes-I wondered whether it was time to keep. But that day, Girijesh Ji certainly would not! And, alas, as it turns out, it was indeed the lesson of a lifetime.
Whenever I used to get stuck during my reading of any grantha, I always had the comfort in my mind for granted that I would be able to clarify whatever I needed to, with Girijesh Ji and that I need not bother too much. And he gave, perhaps to many of us associated with him, such a personal feeling, without ever having met physically (although he would always make a promise to plan a trip to Delhi and to spend time together).
The rapidity and terseness of his social media posts, laden with cryptic wisdom, made me wonder as to why he was in such a hurry, after all. Unfortunately, we only seem to be awakened from our slumber when the Sanaatana Kaalayaatri has already left for his onward Yaatra.
There is so much to be said of him, but the suddenness of his void confounds and prevents me from doing so. We must find our solace in the invaluable treasure trove of his profound writings, which shall forever serve as our maargadarshak.
